Oh yes, summer is here, and with it the cravings for delicious cold drinks! How about trying a delicious mangonada? it is a very traditional Mexican summer drink, and a great way to use Chamoy.

When it is summertime in Mexico, you know it is time for mangonadas! this traditional drink is also known as chamoyada, chamangos, diablitos, so you can say that this is a delicious recipe for chamoyada, chamango or diablito!

What is a mangonada?

It is basically iced mango with chamoy! traditionally, a lot of people use tajin to make it a little bit more spicy and tangy.

Since this drink has been created informally, and probably at the same time in many places around Mexico, it has been named differently (again chamoyada, chamangos, diablitos), but it is essentially the same drink!

I personally like to try it only with mango juice, because with iced mango you end with an -almost- diabetic comma afterward! and let’s not talk about what happens when you combine it with tequila or mezcal!

Anyway… if you want to use it in your summer party, trust me, everyone will love it and will be hooked for life!

It is also very common to use tamarind pulp for the recipe, or garnish it with tamarind! I did not have anything handy, so I used some a pulparindo!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 250 ml Mango juide
  • 2 Frozen mangos Optional if you want to make it with a smoothie texture
  • 1 cup Ice For a lighter version, instead of frozen mangos
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 100 ml Thick Chamoy
  • 1 tbsp Tajin Optional

Instructions

  • Make sure you have all the ingredients

  • Blend the sugar, mango juice and the ice or mangos until the ice is crushed or the mangoes are a bit smooth
  • Put Chamoy in the sides of a big 500ml glass
  • Add the blended mango with the ice
  • Add tajin
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • This is an amazing summer drink and a great way to use Chamoy!
  • Calories are with ice! with more mangos it will go up about another 200 kcal!
  • It is ideal with some tequila or beer to make delicious micheladas!
