How does it taste?

There are many types of persimmon, the two most common that people eat are Hachiya and Fuyu. The Hachiya needs to be ripe in order to be consumed because it contains a lot of tannins, otherwise it is very astringent and the taste is weird. The Fuyu variety can be eaten even if it is not completely ripe because it is not considered astringent.

A lot of people say it tastes a bit similar to dates, for me, at least the Hachiya variety tastes similar to mangoes but less sweet. The texture is similar to apricots and the skin is similar to tomatoes!

This picture is of a ready to eat persimmons of the Hachiya type! If you are curious about the Fuyu type, go and check this article from Oh she glows.

How do you eat a persimmon?

I would say… cut it into slices and devour it!

Some people remove the core because it is a bit bitter, but I eat everything because the core might be full of fiber 😀

When you slice it, it has some kind of star looking shape on each slice 😮 judge yourself and I hope you enjoy this fruit whenever you can. If you see it at the supermarket, go for it and try it!

If you are looking for a good snack, why don’t you try this fruit with a turmeric latte!
