Sparkling hibiscus water

Agua de jamaica is a very popular drink in Mexico. I added a little twist by making it more concentrated and mixing with sparkling water! This is a recipe for how to make hibiscus sparkling water.

What is jamaica drink?

A lot of people that try “agua de Jamaica” tend to ask this question :), this is nothing but hibiscus water. It is a tea created using hibiscus petals.

Ingredients

  • 40 g Jamaica flowers (or twice as much as you would normally put for 1 liter of jamaica water)
  • 750 ml Water
  • 500 ml Sparkling water
  • Stevia for sweetening Optional

Instructions

  • Rinse thoroughly the flowers
  • Put them to boil for about 30 minutes (or leave them in cold water for 1 night)
  • Let them cool down
  • Put the concentrated jamaica water in the fridge
  • Mix with the sparkling water

Notes

  • Calories are as always approximate, depends a lot on how much jamaica you actually put
  • This needs to be concentrated jamaica water, so I have put twice as much jamaica flowers as I would normally put to make the drink
  • The concentrated hibiscus water will last for about a week. Don’t mix it with the sparkling water until you are actually consuming it 🙂
  • Instead of boiling the flowers, you can let them to infuse the water at room temperature to reduce acidity
