<p>Originally from China, Persimmon is widely known as <strong>the fruit of the gods.</strong> It is a fruit with a very special taste, full of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="816" src="https://naturalgoodness.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Persimmon-close-up-1024x816.jpg?x43572" alt="Persimmon close up" class="wp-image-773" srcset="https://naturalgoodness.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Persimmon-close-up-1024x816.jpg 1024w, https://naturalgoodness.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Persimmon-close-up-300x239.jpg 300w, https://naturalgoodness.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Persimmon-close-up-768x612.jpg 768w, https://naturalgoodness.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Persimmon-close-up-800x637.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What are the benefits of persimmon?</h2>

<p>Or in other words, why should you eat persimmons? Well, it is a very nutritious fruit. The following table was taken from this article from <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Healthline (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/persimmon-nutrition-benefits#section2" target="_blank">Healthline</a> and the sugar amount from Google search. You should note that persimmons are also high in antioxidants and fiber! an even additional reason to consume them. Look at the article for a full description. The table shows the nutrition for a persimmon weighting <strong>168 g</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table"><table class=""><tbody><tr><td><strong>Calories</strong></td><td>118</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Carbohydrates</strong></td><td>31 g</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Sugar</strong></td><td>21 g</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Protein</strong></td><td>1 g</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Fat</strong></td><td>0.3 g</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Fiber</strong></td><td>6 g</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Vitamin C</strong></td><td>22 % (RDI)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Vitamin A</strong></td><td>6 % (RDI)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Vitamin K</strong></td><td>5% (RDI)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Vitamin E</strong></td><td>6% (RDI)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Vitamin B6</strong></td><td>8% (RDI)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Potassium</strong></td><td>8 % (RDI)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Copper</strong></td><td>9 % (RDI)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Manganese</strong></td><td>30% (RDI)</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How does it taste?</h2>

<p>There are many <strong>types of persimmon</strong>, the two most common that people eat are <strong>Hachiya</strong> and <strong>Fuyu</strong>. The Hachiya needs to be ripe in order to be consumed because it contains a lot of tannins, otherwise it is very astringent and the taste is weird. The Fuyu variety can be eaten even if it is not completely ripe because it is not considered astringent.<br><br>A lot of people say it tastes a bit similar to dates, for me, at least the <strong>Hachiya</strong> variety tastes similar to mangoes but less sweet. The texture is similar to apricots and the skin is similar to tomatoes! <br><br>This picture is of a ready to eat persimmons of the <strong>Hachiya</strong> type! If you are curious about the <strong>Fuyu </strong>type, go and check <a href="https://ohsheglows.com/2009/08/24/the-persimmon-fruit-fruit-of-the-gods/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="this (opens in a new tab)">this</a> article from Oh she glows.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How do you eat a persimmon?</h2>

<p>I would say&#8230; cut it into slices and devour it!<br><br>Some people remove the core because it is a bit bitter, but I eat everything because the core might be full of fiber <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f600.png" alt="😀" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /><br><br>When you slice it, it has some kind of <strong>star looking</strong> shape on each slice <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f62e.png" alt="😮" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> judge yourself and I hope you enjoy this fruit whenever you can. If you see it at the supermarket, go for it and try it!<br><br>If you are looking for a good snack, why don&#8217;t you try this fruit with a <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="turmeric latte (opens in a new tab)" href="https://naturalgoodness.blog/nutty-turmeric-latte/" target="_blank">turmeric latte</a>!<br><br>If you liked this article, let us know! leave a comment, rate the article or tag a photo on our <a href="https://www.instagram.com/naturalgoodnessforyou/">Instagram</a> or <a href="https://www.facebook.com/naturalgoodnessforyou/">Facebook</a>! <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f600.png" alt="😀" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> </p>
